Paul Cullen’s Attempts document temporary sculptural interventions at sites ranging from public spaces to hotel rooms. Attempts have been developed from Cullen’s research into topics such as, science, architecture, literature, history, gardens and place. Each image is accompanied by diary-like references ranging from factual details (date and place) to historical or anecdotal information.
Cassandra Barnett has written that with his Attempts project Cullen has “... orchestrated canny, knowing documents which capture in one net both their own failure and that of the events they were meant to record... then in the slippage that results, we encounter the fleeting, fragile beauty of the attempt itself”.
