essa may ranapiri(Ngaati Raukawa ki te Tonga | takataapui; they/them/theirs) is from Kirikiriroa. A graduate of Victoria University’s International Institute of Modern Letters 2017 Masters in Creative Writing. With words in Mayhem, Poetry NZ, Brief, Starling, Mimicry, Oscen, Aotearotica, Landfall, THEM and POETRY Magazine they are a firm believer in collaboration. They have produced multiple zines with other artists and writers and are part of the local writing group Puku.riri|Liv.id. In July, ransack, their first collection was published by Victoria University Press. The influential poetry critic, Stephanie Burt, has read the collection and written “This is a significant body of work by a seriously talented writer. It’s moving, sometimes startling, and a pleasure to read. And, for many of us – but especially for those of us whose experience reflects ransack’s larger themes – it’s a book in which those of us who have rarely done so can also manage to see ourselves.”
Graham Judd grew up in Masterton where he served an apprenticeship as a letterpress machinist, then retrained on offset printing. He and his wife moved to Auckland and in the 1980s set up GTO Printers in Birkenhead. He won a supreme award at the 2014 Pride in Print Awards, with his submission judged the best print in New Zealand. Judd now runs his letterpress studio from his home. He also runs print workshops and has trained others in the craft of letterpress. An avid collector of classic letterpress equipment he will add and sell small presses and type at various times.
