THE DIVINE MUSES – An Evening of Poetry

The Divine Muses Readings were established by Siobhan Harvey to coincide with National Poetry Day to provide an opportunity to hear leading New Zealand poets read their own poetry.

Harvey notes when she, “began the Divine Muses, in 2004, there were very few National Poetry Day events happening in Auckland. I wanted to create an event which would involve the widest possible number of fabulous New Zealand poets we have and showcase them to an interested audience in our largest city. I have evolved the Divine Muses as a revolving ensemble like a theatre troupe. Essentially the idea has broadened to embrace and keep giving an outlet to high profile, established and new poets.”

FRIDAY - AUGUST 27, 2021

Covid has again meant the country has had to go into lockdown so 2021's reading again went online.

Click here for the Central Library's teaser for the event with David Eggleton reading.

And click here for details and information on the poets - Isthmus Poets and NZ Poet Laureate David Eggleton.

Unfortunately going on line has meant the Open Mic section was not be able to proceed.

National Poetry Day grows and evolves each year thanks to the support of PHANTOM BILLSTICKERS and other sponsors.

NEW VOICES - Emerging Poets Competition.

Due to Covid19 it was decided the 2021 NEW VOICES competition would not be held. We hope to be open for entries next year.

Unfortunately due to this year's lockdown we are now unable to bring you Isthmus Poets OPEN MIC for Emerging Poets as part of the Divine Muses evening this year.
