AUGUST 23rd is NATIONAL POETRY DAY

Take the opportunity to seek out the range of Poetry Events taking place across the country.

And in Auckland ...

The evening provides an opportunity to hear leading New Zealand poets read their own poetry. Harvey says when she, “began the Divine Muses, there were very few National Poetry Day events happening in Auckland. I wanted to create an event which would involve the widest possible number of fabulous New Zealand poets we have and showcase them to an interested audience in our largest city. I have evolved the Divine Muses as a revolving ensemble like a theatre troupe. Essentially the idea has broadened to embrace and keep giving an outlet to high profile, established and new poets.”

The winners of the 2019 NEW VOICES - Emerging Poets Competition will also be announced.

Friday 23rd August 6.30 - 8.00 pm

Whare Wananga, Level 2 Central City Library, Lorne Street, Auckland.

Admission Free

Take a look out the wonderful new Poetry Postcards developed by DIVINE MUSES to support the NEW VOICES - Emerging Poets Competition. The competition was first held in 2012 and is now in its eigth year. Organisers Siobhan Harvey and Jane Sanders recognised a need to fund raise for the event whilst also taking the opportunity to harness the visual side of poetry by developing Poetry Broadsheets.

This year working with Graham Judd from GTO Printers they have developed One Line Postcards.

Poets Michael Giacon, essa may ranapiri, Helen Rickerby and Elizabeth Welsh have all generously provided their time and words which have been transformed into limited edition letterpress prints.
